a New Year's 5Rhythms workshop with Joanne Winstanley ~ art process guided by Cathy Key
We will cast our lines of vision into the coming year. We will turn our inner eye towards the landscape of the heart. Moving with what’s present, through the mystery and discipline of our movement practice, we will cultivate space for whatever may be ready to untangle to move, in its own time, towards a resolution. Together we’ll affirm our resolve to show up with all of our senses, again and again, as the person our life is asking us to be.
We invite you to join us for this weekend of visioning, movement, and creative imagination ~ stepping into the new year with clarity, curiosity, and a listening heart.

Joanne teaches 5Rhythms with a deep respect for the transformational nature of this practice, for the insight that these maps can bring to our daily lives, and for the unique discovery process of each participant. Her teaching is rooted in a lifelong engagement with her own study and personal work. Since 2001, she has held a steady space for the growth and evolution of a robust dance community in Victoria BC, has supported students and colleagues developing their own teaching path, and has shared her love of this practice with communities, across Canada and overseas.
Cathy is a Victoria-based artist and facilitator whose work bridges movement, creativity and consciousness. With 30 years of yoga, 20 years of ecstatic dance and a long history in transformational leadership, she leads groups into experiences that use art as a gateway to deeper wisdom. PREREQUISITES: a minimum of 15 hours of Waves (5Rhythms classes) is recommended.
Over the course of the weekend, we'll spend approximately 2-3 hours in a simple art process designed to enhance and reflect our movement enquiry.
For students who are tracking their hours toward the 5Rhythms teacher training, this workshop counts as 1 day of Waves and 1.5 days of Heartbeat.
In the Heartbeat™ map, each of the 5Rhythms becomes a gateway to the essential emotions: Flowing / Fear, Staccato / Anger, Chaos / Sadness, Lyrical / Joy, and Stillness / Compassion.

Inner Hearth is a three day Dance Medicine and Embodiment Immersion, a journey of resourcing and stoking your inner fire in community.
In mid winter we gather to remember the warmth that never leaves - the quiet fire at the center of our being, the ember that glows beneath the surface of all things. We will explore how our body and heart can be a source of renewal and activation, a hearth that we can return to again and again.
Together we will create a living hearth, a circle of warmth in the cold of the season, a place to be witnessed and held, to dance our prayers and our tenderness, to rekindle connection with self, earth, and one another.
This weekend immersion combines the powerful tools of conscious dance and shamanic practices to guide you on a path of self-discovery, healing, connection to your true essence, and to the rhythms of life.
The teachings of the 5Rhythms® movement practice and Inner Journeys will support you in accessing a deep state of embodiment, allowing your body to express itself freely and authentically. Movement combined with breathwork becomes a language of the soul, releasing blockages, reconnecting you with your inner wisdom, and fostering a sense of vitality and presence.
A simple movement-based community ritual will integrate the teachings of the weekend, honouring the body as a vessel of transformation and connection.
Participants will leave the weekend with:
• A renewed sense of warmth, vitality, and inner balance.
• Practical somatic and breath-based tools for ongoing self-care and regulation.
• A felt experience of belonging and support through shared movement and ritual.
• Inspiration to continue engaging the body as a sacred ally in personal transformation.
• A deeper trust in the cyclical nature of life — the capacity to rest, rekindle, and rise again.
This workshop is for anyone seeking a deeper connection with themselves, a sense of freedom, and a path to healing. No prior experience in dance or shamanic work is required, just an open heart and a willingness to explore.
We look forward to embarking on this journey with you.
